PROJECTS
Assistants for children from single-parent families
The project Assistants for Children from Single-Parent Families focuses on the early care of children aged 0 to 6 who are growing up in generational poverty with only one parent.
Through our work with both adults and children, we have observed significant material and social deprivation in these families. Many of the children we reach are born into and grow up in conditions of poor hygiene, material deprivation, and a lack of quality food, which negatively affects their growth and development. They are raised in unhealthy social environments, often without positive parental role models.
By providing care and guidance through trained assistants and by integrating these children into pre-primary education, those who participate in this project will have a greater chance of keeping up with their peers from typical backgrounds. This, in turn, will give them the opportunity to build a better future through education and improve their chances of securing better employment opportunities.

Target group
According to current statistics from the Statistical Office, 180,000 single-parent households are at risk of falling into poverty. At present, our database includes more than 2,500 single parents and 400 children under the age of six. Of these, as many as 15% live in an environment of generational poverty.
This project focuses specifically on the children of clients from generational poverty backgrounds with whom we are already working, as well as clients already in our database whose situations we are aware of but have been unable to assist due to capacity constraints.
Project implementation
The project is being implemented in the districts of Michalovce, Trebišov, Vranov nad Topľou, Prievidza, and Levice.
Within the project, assistants will visit preschool-aged children (up to 6 years old) to help develop their gross and fine motor skills, as well as their speech and auditory abilities, through various games and activities.
The children come from single-parent families living in generational poverty. The goal of the project is to ensure that these children begin their preschool preparation.
